For years now, IHOP has been the clearest face of Pancake Day, a quasi-holiday dating back at least 1,000 years. At first I thought this nationwide fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network was little more than an easy-breezy publicity stunt for this house of pancakes, so ostensibly international. I was dead wrong. This is a serious charity drive, and it serves the children well, as the results surely show. (more…)

I just got off the phone with Mike, the general manager at Rainforest Cafe at Southcenter just outside of Seattle, Washington, and he’s told me a few things for certain. They’re only running a single day of Santa Brunch this year, and they expect to be 100% sold out. (more…)

I believe this is our fourth year being invited to check out the Autumn festivities at Remlinger Farms. Our previous years have always been well above par, and this year was no exception. February’s Festa Regionale menu at Il Fornaio highlights the Italian region of Marche for a special Valentine’s outing, exquisitely pairing the cuisine of the mountains with that of the sea. The cooks in the mountainous region of Marche specialize in hearty meat dishes such as lamb and pork, while the coastal inhabitants take advantage of the abundant finfish and shellfish.

If you’ve never been to Canlis, let us point out that every occasion there is a celebration. Maybe it’s a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon or Thursday – whatever it is will become a celebration. It’s easy to know this for certain because Canlis is the single best restaurant in the city, even according to my friends with most discriminating tastes.
